Media Personalities : Call For Action
It seems late night talk shows were a thing before they became a thing in the 21st century. Before Stephen Colbert and Seth Myers you had Howard Beale, who broke the “fourth wall” and engaged his viewers to get angry and let out their frustrations. People have said that when you go into an empty space and release all tension by screaming out loud does help to calm the body. That’s what Howard essentially asked viewers to do. He became a television therapist by telling the American people to scream what makes them angry with America. Now there is a downside to media personalities encouraging this, meaning some might take it to extreme levels when it's just to express your frustration by yelling out your window. But this clip is relaying the actual feelings many express. Sometimes you do not realize how much you internalize from the news until you express it with others. This depiction can be related to today’s late night talk shows like Colbert and Myers. Only difference is that they have a live audience that provides live reactions to what they discuss throughout the show. For example is the call for stricter laws on gun control. Families who have been affected are creating these groups that speak out for stricter gun laws to make it almost impossible for dangerous guns to fall into the wrong hands. The media is able to capture moments like this to share their importance and shedding light on the issue at hand.
