Analysis : Manufacturing Consent

Manufacturing content means appealing to the masses, which is usually one sided. Mr. Chomsky would agree. He argued that the elite are pulling the strings behind what is published and what is not published. I agree that media information is definitely changing at the hands of the elite. It's a type of controlling the narrative. If they can control what's being shared they are able to create support or interest in what is currently happening. This in turn manipulates individuals to change their way of thinking. People are influenced by what they see. People then base their values, ideals, and/or opinions on what the media is sharing. Chomsky wanted the public to open their eyes to see the underlying corruption within the media. In the videos he discussed the production and investments made into the media. These are two important sectors because once production agrees with the information being shared, more and more investment shares are allocated. Looking deeper in the foundation of the media can help individuals and the masses to understand the elites and their hand within the power structures of their country.

  1. Hey Vanna, absolutely Chomsky argued that there is the political class which include those who make the decision and rules to be follow and those who will follow these rules. For instance, the effluents' control what type of news will be broadcast for population to watch, and what lessons kids will learn in the schools; these facts consequently create a molded political perspective on the population.
